Trying New Things

Broken plates are always a huge pain. No matter how diligently you sweep the floor you always find that one last shard in the bottom of your foot. So when my husband dropped one of our plates last weekend I wasn't too pleased. But as I looked at how large the pieces were I started to wonder if I couldn't use them in a craft project. We have had this wide framed mirror in our closet for years because it was just too plain to put out yet I knew it could be destined for something else.

So we set out to do our first mosaic. Our plates are white with a black damask pattern. We knew we wouldn't have enough pieces to cover the whole mirror so we bought some cheap black plates from Wal Mart and broke them, too.

Here is what our finished mirror looks like:

It was nice to take a break from all the sewing to learn about a new process. It was fun and I appreciate mosaic pieces so much more now. We wont be pursuing mosaics any further but it's always fun to know we can do it.

Check out this Etsy store, Rockcandymosaics, that has beautiful mosaics!

Storque Article

I almost choked last night when I checked the Storque. I haven't been spending as much time in the Etsy community section lately because I've been slightly disheartened by all the technical problems. But before bed last night I decided to check and see what was new on the Storque. Etsy is having a craft night featuring appliqueing techniques and they used our Fluttering Heart Hoodie as an example! What an honor. I've often seen the chosen items in the Storque articles and felt pangs of jealousy. Now that we've tooted our own horn an appropriate amount, go check it out! Thanks to everyone who is a friend to Midnight Snack and checks up on us through our blog.

Thoughts on the Technical Problems

There have been problems with the search functions of Etsy for the last week or so. There has also been problems with spammers, sock puppets, resellers, etc, etc. It's frustrating and we're all sort of holding our breath until it gets fixed. But it also is a coming of age for Etsy. We're finally big enough to attract those that are out there to sabotage. We're no longer confined to our close knit community, but are getting a generous amount of attention from the outside world. Whether they are jealous, immature, or just down right mean doesn't much matter. They'll get there's eventually and we can go back to the smoothly operating Etsy we all know and love. But we'll never be the same. We're famous now and only getting bigger! Hold on to your hats ladies and gentleman, because we have officially arrived.

Hey, I'm in a Treasury!

And since that is such a rare thing, I thought I'd share it! Since the Treasury debacle yesterday opened up so many spots, I had a much better chance of getting into one.
Look quick before it goes away tomorrow evening!

They've selected our Fluttering Heart Hoodie, which also happens to be one of our newest items! Check out our new hoodies in the store now and check back next week for Halloween items!

Halloween Feature

Etsy has picked our RIP Tombstone Pillow for it's Halloween Gift Guides! Thanks Etsy! We're very honored to be included among such wonderful creations! Halloween is our favorite time of year and we're working on more Halloween items as we speak. Tombstone pillows are great for decor or for snuggling and we can make them with any 3 initials you like. A set for the whole family would be creepy and kooky for this Halloween!
