Etsy Dallas has just announced it's official 2009 roster. They've gone to only allowing 60 members per year so spots were very limited. I'm happy to announce that Midnight Snack made the team. I am so excited to get to participate in the team events this year. The next big thing for Etsy Dallas is it's Spring Bash on May 16th so mark your calendars to come and see all the fantastic vendors this year!

An Etsy Christmas

Welcome back everyone! We hope everyone had a fantastic holiday and are gearing up for an exciting new year! We certainly enjoyed our few weeks off of real life work as well as time off from the store. It's just what we needed to dive into our newest projects. Before we get into our new projects here I'd like to brag on several Etsy sellers who provided some of my favorite Christmas gifts this season.

Seeing Our Name in Print

We were trying to keep this one under wraps until it hit news stands. I think we secretly were terrified that it was going to fall through, but here it is, finally! QuickDFW is a supplemental magazine to the Dallas Morning News newspaper. It's published weekly and features entertainment, night life, shopping, and the like. It is free and can be found at thousands of locations in the DFW Metroplex. Their November 27th issue has gift guides and devoted an entire page to EtsyDallas. Out of the dozens of members, 7 were chosen to be featured in this guide and Midnight Snack was one of them! Check out the whole issue online, here. Congratulations to all the EtsyDallas members who were chosen! We have about 10 pounds worth of copies over here, I hope everyone was able to get a copy of their own! Thanks QuickDFW, we couldn't be happier!

My First Fair

Our lovely apartment complex had it's first try at a vendor fair last week. It was pretty good and the attendance was decent. They hope to continue these with more frequency and we'll be at every one of them. We've posted some pics of our table, our first one ever!I can't wait to get a few more of these under my belt so I can move on to the big fairs! It's just over a week until Thanksgiving and the Oven Roasted Turkey Plush has been getting tons of attention. We'll be keeping this guy around at least through Christmas, it's now become our best seller!

It finally happened! I made my very first front page today. I hope you got a chance to see it in action, but if not here is a screen shot!

How Did We Do?

Well, Austin for Halloween certainly is a blast. The streets are crammed with costumed people young and old, parties, and parades. We thought we did pretty good with our Muppets costumes, both Rowlf (from Muppet Babies) and Animal. Unfortunately, we might have missed our target because most of the college kids down there didn't know who we were even after it was explained. I guess I finally feel like my generation doesn't blend with theirs. I grew up watching Muppet Babies and Muppets Take Manhattan so our costumes were a nice tribute to our child hood friends. We had fun anyway, besides that's what it's all about, right? We hope all our readers had a Happy Halloween!

Handmade Halloween

My mother used to make all of our Halloween costumes and they were usually really elaborate. There was a Snow White costume complete with the initials "SW" embroidered on the cape and the princess costume with contrasting colors inside the long bell sleeves. So, as I grew older it was always imprinted in my head that you make your Halloween costume, and I have almost every year since I was about 12. But these bag costumes that generally had been thought of as cheap or ugly have really come a long way. Now they can cost you upwards of $50 and come with many accessories! I wont fall for it though, I still make my costume and my husband and I are headed to some great Halloween fun this weekend in our Muppets costumes. He, being a drummer for a long time, has chosen Animal, and I have chosen Rowlf as a Muppet Baby. Check back after Halloween for some pics and you can see just how well we did.

Food, Fun, and Gift Guides!

Midnight Snack is working hard to put out new items every week so you can have a great selection for you holiday shopping! This week we concentrated on our plush items and produced three new food plushes just for you!
Apparently they've caught some attention because two of them are now featured in the Etsy Gift Guides. Our Loaf of Bread plush is in the Children Gift Guide and our Steak Plush is in the Gag Gift Guide. Hooray!

Weather is Changing, Economy is Grey

It's starting to get cooler, even here in Texas and the seasons are definitely in the process of change. With all of the turmoil in our economy and with the election it's easy for us all to get a little blue every once and while. That was the exact inspiration for Midnight Snack's newest piece, the Sunshiny Day Cardigan.

The sun, smiling brightly with rosy cheeks is peeking out from behind a grey cloud, reminding us that it will be sunny again soon. Wearing this on your cardigan will help you get through those tough days when you think things will never turn around.

We've also started making our robot hoodies again, which were a huge hit last fall and winter. Our hoodies with different appliques are very popular and are perfect for the colder months on the horizon. We'll continue to put out new clothing with different designs, but if you have something specific in mind please contact us, we love hearing from customers!

Let Me Give You My Card

My wonderful new business cards arrived this week and they look great! Woohoo for not having to print my own cards anymore! My cards are from GotPrint.com and I highly recommend them. I feel like I'm official now, and so far people have responded really well.

My favorite package from Etsy came from Gypsy Rabbit. The jewelry comes in an adorable cloth pouch with the jewelry packaged in platic and card stock baggies. She hand writes a note and gives an adorable mini button and a free gift! I strive to make my promotional materials as beautiful as Gypsy Rabbits.

Trying New Things

Broken plates are always a huge pain. No matter how diligently you sweep the floor you always find that one last shard in the bottom of your foot. So when my husband dropped one of our plates last weekend I wasn't too pleased. But as I looked at how large the pieces were I started to wonder if I couldn't use them in a craft project. We have had this wide framed mirror in our closet for years because it was just too plain to put out yet I knew it could be destined for something else.

So we set out to do our first mosaic. Our plates are white with a black damask pattern. We knew we wouldn't have enough pieces to cover the whole mirror so we bought some cheap black plates from Wal Mart and broke them, too.

Here is what our finished mirror looks like:



It was nice to take a break from all the sewing to learn about a new process. It was fun and I appreciate mosaic pieces so much more now. We wont be pursuing mosaics any further but it's always fun to know we can do it.
